Can I drop in to the Improvers class?

If you have passed the assessment for the improvers class, then you can drop in to any Improvers class in any series, unless stated otherwise.

Can I drop in to the Intro class?

You may only drop in on the first class of the series. Due to this series being technically progressive, this policy is required students keep pace with one another. Special permission to drop in on other classes within the series may be given on an ad hoc basis based on the instructors discretion. Please contact the series instructors, send an email to SwingLab or speak to Alpha to for permssion.

I can’t make it to the first class but I want to take the rest of the series. What can be done?

Option 1: Pay the full cost of the series & miss that class. Option 2: Take a 30 minute private lesson (If offered) to make up the lost content with the series instructors, Myles, Tessa, Alpha or Jen. You will then be charged a pro-rated price for the series which is $30 (if it is a 3 weeks series) or $45 (if it is a 4 weeks series). You must tell SwingLab you will be missing that class prior to the series starting in order to receive the pro-rated price.

I have to miss a class in the middle of the series, what options are available to me?

What is the fundamental skills assessment?

In order to ensure a minimum skill level of Improvers participants, we require dancers without one or more WSDC novice points, to complete a fundamental skills assessment. This <5 minute process involves having one of the SwingLab teachers dance with you to determine which skills you already have and which ones are still in progress, according to an objective checklist of SLDM fundamental skills. Dancers can request a skill assessment at any point during the series. Included in every assessment is free targeted feedback on what steps a student should take to improve their dancing.

Does everybody have to do the assessment to gain entry into Improvers?

No. You prequalify for Improvers if you have one or more WSDC Novice points.

What skills I be assessed on?

We are looking for you to be able to demonstrate all these skills:
